Development Plan
The vision of Sweet Springs Management Company is to recreate the atmosphere of the Historic Sweet Springs property in its fullness by combining Andrew S. Rowan Memorial Farm with the historic property and buildings currently owned by our company and developing them into a world class resort, hotel and conference centre and health spa.
Historically the mineral spring at “Old Sweet” was considered, “the best acidulous water in the United States” and due to that, many people, from all over the globe, traveled through the harsh West Virginia terrain to reap the rich benefits and healing qualities of the mineral spring water. Soon the resort developed and grand buildings of intricate design replaced the rugged rambling log cabins. The resort allowed settlers to find work and it was not long before towns developed. The areas surrounding the spring flourished while still maintaining their “wild and wonderful atmosphere.”
Over hundreds of years, wars and recessions caused this beautiful resort to shut its doors. Few memories remain of the years that beheld the glory of the Sweet Springs, and those memories are fading fast. The lands and buildings that became synonymous with the Sweet Springs were deteriorating and a valuable piece of American history and culture was nearly lost.
Sweet Springs Management Company is dedicated to the total restoration and preservation of this glorious piece of history. The springs will flourish once again and many visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy this amazing place and the peaceful beauty of the West Virginia Countryside.
Sweet Springs Management Company is currently working with the National Parks Service, the State Historic Preservation Office, the Monroe County Historical Society, the West Virginia Department of Tourism, the Greenbrier Economic Development Department, the Monroe County Commissioner and the people of Monroe County West Virginia to preserve the Old Sweet Springs property and provide economic development opportunities on a state and local level.
We are looking forward to the grand reopening in Spring of 2009.
With the help of the West Virginia Department of Agriculture we anticipate completing our project within the next three years. Our projections indicate we will employee 200 plus local and state residents. Due to the revenue generating potential of both the resort and the water bottling company we will increase the tax base of the area and will become a major economic contributor. The local business community will also reap the benefits of the Sweet Springs patrons. We will continue to work closely with state and local officials such as the Greenbrier Economic Development Department and The West Virginia Department of Tourism in order to effectively promote the local area and its attractions in addition to producing more jobs and more revenue.
